Aluminum shift **** and heat....

For those of you with an aluminum shift ****....does it get hot or just warm? And how bad is it from the tranny and from direct sunlight in the summer?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

When I was a kid I put one of these things on a car because I thought it looked cool. It did, but in the summer after sitting in the sun for a few hours it was hot enough to cook my first layer of skin onto it if grabbed it with a bare hand (little exaggeration, not much). I don't recall every using one again.

Same here back when I had my B&M Megashifter w/ aluminum T-handle...you'd need a spatula to peel your hand off it after sitting in the sun.

my megashifter would either burn my hand in the summer or freeze it in the winter, that was on the 83 and after i wrecked it i took it out and sold it, ill stick with stock in the '84

After I put tint across the top of the windshield, I never have had a problem with b&m mega getting hot. It cost me $20 at the local tint shop.

Well my windows are tinted so the sun won't always be an issue but that still sucks knowing it will get hot as hell. I really want the b&m quicksilver **** and I think I'll just make sure to keep the old leather **** in the car for times when it gets really hot.

But what about heat from the tranny? Does enough heat travel up to make the **** really hot?

No, transmission heat won't get to the shifter, if the trans got hot enough to get the shift **** hot it would be toast!!!

I also have the B&M Megashifter; and I wear driving gloves all year round. No problems at all.

It's never been hot enough to burn the B&M emblem into my bare hand... uh, (looks around) not that I tried that... nope, not me... saw it in the .. I mean.. heard it on the radio once.
