smoke coming in through the console... grrr
yesterday i was driving on the highway and opened my window which started to siphon smoke up through my shifter hole, which i havent sealed yet since swapping in the t56. it's very noticeable and appears to be white/grey and has a smell but it's too faint to recognize. it only does this in sixth gear, but that probably relates to the speed, not the gear i'm in and it won't happen if i'm just applying enough gas to maintain speed, it happens only if i apply enough gas to accelerate. i tried depressing the clutch and shifting the tranny to neutral while at speed and revving the engine and that didnt cause it to smoke which tells me that the engine needs to be under load for it to smoke (unless a trans can emit smoke??).
i pulled over and checked everything over, didn't see any smoke but i noticed my water neck is leaking (small leak) where it seals to the intake but i doubt that enough coolant is leaking that it makes that much steam if it's hitting the headers. i just put new collector gaskets on the headers a couple weeks ago so i'm sort of doubting that it's a leak from there but i did reuse my header-to-head gaskets (one year old) when i put the driver header back on after drilling the O2 bung, but those looked like they were in good shape. so i got back on the highway and went to where i was going and back (130mi one way) and there were no noticeable problems other than the smoke; coolant temp was good, oil pressure was good.

1 > steam from anti-freeze smells EXACTLY like antifreeze... it's not that... plus it would have been steaming the whole time, when you revved, pulled over ...
2 > a tranny CAN smoke, there are gears, and moving parts which (when not properly lubricated) can cause smoke.. ALSO there is a clutch which can smoke when heated and put under a constant load (with an entire list of other conditions)..
I'd suggest that you get a tranny oil change, and an inner shifter boot... If you still notice it... I'd suggest that you look at engine gaskets and seals to make sure that you aren't burning any dripping oil on your headers (it doesn't smell that strong either) That's all that I can think of ... GOOD LUCK
