Car will not start again after running for awhile

Question for you guys. I have a 1982 Camaro with a 350 chevy carburated. It starts up fine, but after you shut it off, it will not start back up again untill the engine cools down after a couple of hours. When you try to start it, it pops, and white smoke is dispersed from the carburator. It started doing this the end of last summer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

the problem relies in your starter. What you need is a cheap heat shield from any local part store and that will help alot but you will have to disconnect your battery wires and the 2 bolts that hold the starter to install the sheild onto the starter itself.

Just to clarify, will it crank normally but not start, or does it not even crank at normal speed?

It cranks at normal speed, and usually pops and disperses white smoke from carb

I'm guessing you carb is leaking raw fuel into the intake after you shut down, either from a high float level or leak. What kind of carb are you using?

Never mind. I read it in your dignature after I posted (signatures don't appear in the Reply screens).

With the Holley 4160, you'll want to check the bowl level through the sight plugs, and verify that the throttle body is tightly attached to the main carb body.

Holleys? Percolate? Naaaaaaw..... never an almighty Holley!

Could it be a dead ignition module?

I didn't really read the whole post, but seems to be either starter issue related to heat, or a timing issue, I am leaning toward's issue with timing....
