CAN any1 tell me how to get rid of this PING!!!!
I have the most annoying ping in my car, and it only does it on hard acceleration or just flooring it, some1 told me maybe the guy who had it before my advanced the spark and maybe it causes a ping, I don't know, need ideas.
Trying a higher grade of fuel or a different gas station is a good starting point. What year is this car? If it is a later year you may have a knock sensor that is going out. Has the car always pinged like this is did it just pop up?
ah...the best gas from your current store or the best gas available. I had this prob and it was the gas, I can only run High Grade from reputable service stations not conveince stores.

bought a wrecked(head on,bad)'84 Z28 rebuilt it in'92 parked it in
'93 and ordered a '93 Z28. Got tired of the 4th gen in '99 and sold it and begin swapping in '85 TPI converted to speed density. engine is all stock except for comp cam. body has '86 IROC nose peice, ground fx and IROC wheels/goodyear 245/50's. IMO this car looks and feels more "racey" than my '93 did. and I love driving it. BTW fuel injection is great I'll never go back to carbs.

Try a different store. They may have contaminated their tanks or gotten a bad shipment or something. If you haven't tried the gas from a different source then you can't eliminate the gas. I would just try a different name brand gas from another location.

Check your timing it should be at 6 degrees BTDC. Also check your knock sensor, it might not be working. What is your water temperature at, is it possible that your thermostat or fans are not working correctly?

IROC-ZTWENTY, don't feel too bad... I've had a ping in my car since the day I got it. No amount of gas-brand-changing (always use 93 from major companies), timing changes, tuneups, computer chips, etc can get rid of it.
I'm leaning towards a partially clogged EGR tube (since EGR activation makes the computer go a big lean, or so I've heard)... but I've given up on fixing it.
