stubborn dipstick
stubborn dipstick
ok i searched the boards and came up with nothing useful, i put the hooker shorties on, and my buddy snapped the dipstick tube in half, for some reason he wanted to pull it out before we replaced it, so now i have oil poopin out of it onto my headers making really embarrassing smoke and smell, heh, well ive tried several different dipsticks from the stores and i snapped some and they just dont want to go in the hole, anyone put it in with REAL ease or is it just a pain, i tried shaving the tip that goes in the hole so itll stay in the hole while im pushin on it, it stays in the hole ok will i push on it but it doesnt help it go in, what am i doing wrong??? i matched the new dipstick tube up to the old one and it is the same size just thicker metal, any ideas? and yes the whole dipstick tube is out, i have it here.
I'll say they are supposed to go in fairly easily. The stock one I've got now just slips in and out (maybe too loose), but I've had some cheap aftermarket ones that were quite a struggle. It just isn't manufactured to very specific tolerances.

i had the same problem,,,when i was taking out the bolt that holds in the dipstick and manifold the dipstick was corroded right to the bolt head a,,,,,so as soon as I started removing it I basicly had to wrap the dipstick around the bolt causing it to snap in 3 pieces. so when I got my headers on i had to use the old dipstick till i got a new one. i didnt have any oil coming up mine i guess I was lucky. But anyhow I went to my dealer for a new dipstick tube ($29 can.) mine sliped in fine I just had to bend it a bit more to get in in right.....but it sliped in fine. It wouldnt bolt up the same (it was off like 1/2'') so I had to make a braket to bolt it up to the engine. but its siting in the hole tight to as far in as it can go so its fine now.
