Best Fuel Pressure Regulator
Best Fuel Pressure Regulator
While investigating the cause excessive cranking to start & run and low 3rd gear power on my son's 88 GTA with a Vortec supercharger, we discovered fuel coming from the vaccum hose on the fuel pressure regulator. Obviously, the FPR diaphram is shot. I'm leaning toward just replacing it with an AC Delco unit. My kid is thinking aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Because the FPR will see boost, as well as vaccum, I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable, good working FPR. What is everyone's prefrence?
Thanks, FJK
PS: Oh yeah, the failed FPR might also explain why the spark plugs look fuel fouled.

FJK,
You'll probably want to ask around at different suppliers, but I'm not sure that any FPR is rated for pressure on the pilot diaphragm. Considering that pressure will randomly increase the fuel rail pressure above the setpoint, you may want to install a vacuum check valve in the FPR pilot line with whichever regulator you decide to install.
