After modding the engine I can't keep my foot off the gas!
like, Wow! I advanced the timing the other day, and the engine is running with a lot more response now.
I only have a 2000 stall speed converter so the engine is a little lazy getting off the line, but then it comes on strong. The most excitement comes from downshifts to 1st gear at 20 MPH: The car leaps, loses traction, gains it, then loses traction when it hits second gear. It take about half-a-second for the car to re-hook. The sound of all eight cylinders firing through the Hooker aerochamber at 6000 RPM is just amazing! I can't get enough of it! I hit 6000 at least three times a day on my way to work. My tires are visibly losing tread each day, and I'm now on the wear bars.
Oh, this speed-parts addiction is really starting to set in bad!
I'm hoping for 100 MPH in the quarter when I go to Stanton in August. 100 or bust!

WOW
6000 RPM's, you've got ***** man. I have never taken my car over 5500 RPM's.
Hey I guess I need to try it
I know the feeling, I love to GOFASTER, and work is only 5 miles from my place, I can make it in under 6 min...... (When their is no cops watching me, he he he)
100 or bust is a great feeling. My best time is 108.56 with a ET of 13.5. You can tell by the MPH I have no traction. And, if I did I should pull high 12's.. Just waiting on BGF drag radials.

Your TPI is somewhat RPM limited, whereas I am using a Quadrajet and an Edelbrock Performer.
I always thought that converting a TPI car to the Edelbrock Pro-Flow (A Victor Jr. intake with port fuel injection) would be loads of fun at 6500 RPM. I'd want balancing, shot-peening, nitriding, & forged pistons first, I suspect.
Since my 305 H.O. was a 5500 RPM motor from the factory, 6000 didn't seem like a big stretch. The funny part is, my engine has 131,000 miles on the shortblock with no visible wear on the cylinder walls! Thank you, Mobil 1! It just didn't seem to make sense to rebuild the shortblock when everything kept checking out okay. No taper, or out of round, no visible bearing wear. No sludge, nothing! It looked like 16 years new.
Whoah No! Here it comes again! Zoom!

Sounds good.
You know, I'm a 350 addict, but there is this little rev inside me that wants me to explore the full potential of these carbed 305 street engine.
Of course they will not produce the same HP/$ invested as a 350, but there is just something intrigueing about that lil ole 305.
I am also surprised at my LG4 (I know, I know it should be an L69, but don't ask, long story
). I have the long block all stock (except for the 268H Comp cam, 1.6 Crane RR, Edelbrock Performer EGR and 1-1/2 headers. Haven't touched the heads, only a 3 angle VJ (Oh and new springs to support .500" lift))) and this baby is strong (similar to my mild 350 that was in my other Z28). I am hoping to get mid-high 14s @ 94-96 mph outta this 305 A4. If so, I might kinda follow your route (less larger valves, but definately 9.5:1 pistons). Good luck on your potential times and let us know what happens.
Oh btw, didn't you know that as you make more mods, the accelerator starts to stick at wot because a heavy object on the pedal. Some how, it's connected to your leg.

Given the mileage it isn't that wise, but as long as the valve springs are in good condition 6,000 RPM for a small block chevy is not a great stretch. I've seen several less than wise mud boggers run basically stock 350's at 7500-8500RPM. I saw a stock low-perf 327 with a big mechanical cam once run 9000RPM. Well, a missed shift made the intake the only salvagable part on the 327. Keep in mind none of these engines were long lived. For street use we keep building engines that start to run out of breath at 5,000-5,500RPM but the design can twist pretty hard if needed.
