Erratic voltage
Erratic voltage
I just wanted everyones opinion on this. Everytime I go and drive my car, the voltage jumps around from 13V down to around 9-10V. What do you guys think might be causing this problem? Is it minor?
And just yesterday when I picked up my friend from work my car died on me. I drove to her work, car was driving just fine. I parked the car and turned off the engine, waited about 5min. When my friend and I got ready to go, I put the car in reverse and It just died on me. What do you guys think of this?
Thanx for any advice or info on this fellas. Sorry its so long.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it, but part of your problem sounded familiar. My firebird used to not start after I would take drives. It wouldnt happen all the time, so it was hard to get it to happen. One day I took it out and drove it until it finally did it (I was driving around the pontiac dealership). They checked it and said it was the starter. Dunno if that will help, but I hope it does...

I've had similar problems in my '88 ROC.
Was it hot outside when that happened to you?
I have a SLP chip and I think the heat makes that thing go crazy. My idle surges, and consequently the voltage. Some times to the point of dying on me due to low rpm. I just turn off the car, wait a couple of seconds, then restart, and chances are it'll act fine. I have no clue. I can only guess it's my chip. I'd like to know for sure, though.
