1999 into a 1989 w/in:

Is it possible to put the heater and air condition controls of a 1999 camaro into a 1989 camaro? (Considering they both have heat and air conditioning)

thanks

Probably not, the 99 system doesnt have the sliders that our setup has. The slider system MECHANICALLY drives a pushrod that opens and closes valves, and vacuum also plays a part in its operation. TO my knowledge the 99 system is all electric.

It won't work. If you've ever seen behind the dash of one of our f-cars, they use a very complicated (and error prone) vacuum system that opens little plastic doors to direct air flow. The 99 camaro controls will not have provision for the vacuum lines.

Yes I think it could be set-up

What you will need is the Control unit and Programmer, and Electric heat/air exchange motor from a 99 f-body along with the wiring from the service manual.

I bet you could also get the Unit from a C4 Vette to work as well

I have an 89 vette. in the 89MY the vette had the manual and the electric AC. The manual uses sliders like the F-body. The Electric has an ECC(Electronic Climate Control), a stepper motor for the heat/air exchange door, and a Programmer. All the programmer does is take the electronic commands (voltages) from the ECC and operates relays which open and close Vacuum ports.

For some one willing to try it, it could work. the only thing with most of the ECC type systems is they have multispeed fans.. (more than 3 speeds) My corvette has 10 fan settings for the electric.. so you need to find one that will fit..

Good Luck

guys the swap can be made and does work but it requires extensive work to the firewall. there is a guy on here from holland i believe that put an entire 97 z28 interior in his 89 iroc. he put the dash, seats, console, door panels, air bags, and HVAC. i forget the site name but someone may remember. that car was the coolest camaro ive ever seen. he had the whole 97 drivetrain in the car as well. he had several pics of the HVAC install and he had to cut a huge hole in the pass. firewall. if i find the address ill post it here.

Too much work for such an insignificant change.
