Going to pull the 400TPI out of donor car this weekend, gotta couple questions!

Mainly I want to know what senors/harnesses will I want to take out of the car. My friend and I are going to pull it out and I am going to use the 400 in my car, but I am going to use TBI and I am going to sell the TPI. I plan on taking the computer and all harnesses necessary for a TPI install. So if you can post pics or describe what the harness/wires/senors or anything else that I will want to grab looks like I would appreciate it! Thanks!

That's pretty much what I am thinkin'. But I have to go get the car and pull the engine. The girl is stupid, she wants $800 for the wheels/tires(which are brand new Eagle Alloy wheels and new BFGoodrich Radial TA's265/50/15) and the engine, which I am taking the freakin' TPI and sellin'. The tranny is shot, the body isn't too bad, but she wants $2000 for the entire car! She's screwed when I get done with it and all she has is the interior, shot tranny and rear-end(which I am going to try to buy!). And like a couple of t-tops. Oh well, it'll be fun!

Why would you even consider pulling the motor to switch it to TBI.I mean if you have the car,and it is complete(harness,TPI,ect..)then why don't you swap the whole thing in?

Personally,thats what I would do but then I like to go fast.

I gotta agree with TTA, I've seen what happens to people that think they're going to put a TBI (Holley 4-barrel one) on a 400. After seeing how many problems that person enjoyed, how poorly the thing ran 95% of the time, the expense and hassle of custom chips, etc. etc. etc., I'd have to run as far away from TBI as I could get. Not that getting a stock TPI to allow a 400 to perform to its full potential is going to be a walk in the park either, but it's a bit better of a platform to work from.

I don't have the entire car, guess I shoulda been more clear about what I meant by donor car. This girl bought a 85 TA from a guy that dropped in a 400SB and then put back on the original 305 TPI system and no new chip. He was pissed that it didn't run as good as he thought it would, guys a dumbarse wouldn't listen to anyone when they said that it was because the TPI system wasn't flowing enough fuel/air to feed the engine, so he sold it to this girl now for $1400. The tranny was going out, and now it's completely fragged. I told her that i'd give her $750 for the entire car, all I wanted was the engine and wheels anyway. And now she thinks she should/can get $2000 out of it. But she said she would sell me the engine/wheels for $800, and that I had to pull the engine and all, which I planned to do, her b/f is a complete moron!

I don't want to go through the trouble of buying a superram or miniram for the damn thing to feed it, so there for a higher flowing TBI system is cheaper, plus I don't like TPI all that much, too damn expensive. Considering I can get a good Torker 2 and Holley TB for $500. MUCH CHEAPER than a $1000+ Super-Ram. Then I can sell the entire TPI system. Sorry so damn long, kinda got to rambling.

[EDIT]I am not going to run a 4 barrel TBI system. Going with the Holly 670CFM TB, with the 85#injectors. It'll feed it for what I want, not going all out street/strip. Sleeper all the way.

If you are planning to run TBI, and you already have a TBI car, then you don't have to take anything but the motor. Am I missing something?

Seems like the only thing that will feed that 400 properly(if you don't want to go TPI) is a carb and manifold.

A 670cfm Holley with 85# injectors will feed it, I am pretty sure, that's the response I got from the TBI board anyway. I want to take the TPI system to sell it off, cause I won't need it, and I will need some cash, so might as well as take it anyway, the girl that has the car doesn't know anything about it, so i figure take everything that involves the engine and sell off the TPI system.

While you are taking advice from the guys on the TBI board, take a look at the times those cars are running... theres a post there.

Jester, if you know everything, then what would you suggest I run? Carb? Nope not going to run it. Already have a TBI=Smart Carb. You could suggest something instead of being an **** about it.

TBI = restrictive "smart" carb.

TPI with a miniram and porting is where it's at...

TPI w/ MiniRam and porting=TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE

Holley TBI=High Flowing "Smart" Carb

So unless you want to give me $1500+ for the miniram setup, thank you for your input.
