3rd GEN RAM AIR
3rd GEN RAM AIR
Ok guys... what happens to a ram-air/ intake, when it rains ??... I'm making the custom ram air box... It will go through a K&N filter, how do you keep water OUT of the intake ?? Does the filter do that ?? maybe I'm just thinking TOO MUCH, but how does that all work ??
thanks
thanks
A wet air filter element is in essence a brick wall, as far as air molecules are concerned. If you want to experiment, wash your air filter element, install it while wet, then try to start the engine.
Most better aftermarket CAI or RA systems will have a labyrinth, trap, or baffle system to divert, trap, or drain water. Plan accordingly.
You could always install an oil bath type air filter, which is far superior to any fiber media type filter for cleaning intake air. It is also more tolerant of water incursion. Where and how you would install it is completely up to you.

"Mustangs in mirror are farther back then they appear"
 I HAVE a decal in my drivers side mirror that says "objects in mirrors are mustangs",,, the first time my dad drove my car... (after I put in my 325 HP small block) he pulled up to an intersection,,, then a nice loud 5.0 pulled up and started REVVING... my dad, being as cool as the rest of us
... started revving back.... the light turned green. DAD punched it, and wasn't expecting the pull (because of the 325 HP engine compared to the original 170HP ) he choked on his gum LOL.. and then he looked into the mirror to see where the mustang was and saw the DECAL... "objects in mirror are mustangs" He had to pull over because he was laughing SO SO HARD
How do you go about making a custom ram air box for a 3rd gen? Is there a web site that tells you?

These babies are totally sealed all the way thru..
I put these metal screens in when I went to Bristol so a bunch of crap wouldnt get up in there....they are just held on with belcro ...so I just have to take the screws off the grill plate and take them off when every I want every bit of air in.......I wanna get it dyno'ed to really see how much of a inprovment the ram air is...

sorry bout all the pics
Wishmaster- where did you get your ram-air tubes? i like the smooth sheet metal look- where can i get those? or did you make them- i'm currently stuck with my 8" a/c ducting
I did the same exact thing as Wishmaster's87IROC. ive had it done for about 6 months. i have driven it through some bad Texas weather and all it does is runs a little rough when i splash through a puddle. besides that i love having it. It adds a whole lot of pull when driving at high speeds. i love the sucking sound when at idle. have fun i know i do with mine
