What the hell did I see ???
What the hell did I see ???
Being kind of a Camaro buff for the last few years I have never seen anything like this. It was a thirdgen Firebird body with a Camaro front end ( front clip, headlights & hood ) It also had the Camaro wheels ( which i'd imagine are interchangable with Ponitac ). The rest of the car was Firebird, tail lights etc. . . What the hell was this ? I did'nt get to get a real good look 'cause it was goin' the other way.
Must have been somebodies weird *** project. I can't imagine why some people butcher their cars like that. But who knows, it may have looked good.

its a custom job.. the car was prolly wrecked, and the guy had a firebird handy, and swapped the parts.. they can be pretty unique..
probably just did it to make people talk. ive done some strange stuff just for that reason. like painting my firebird barney purple and all the mirrors and wheels and headlights lime green.

Sure it wasn't just a Camaro with a Firebird rear spoiler and tail lights? Some people do that, the parts are fairly interchangable. I don't know if anybody has ever made a car so much the same for so many years as the 3rd generation f-body. I find most people are repulsed by the idea. I think the firebird tail lights are cool, but I also think everything about the firebirds is more cool than the Camaros. Someone may have just wanted to swap in the tail lights, the rear quarter panels themselves are the same.
The rear quarter panels are different. The Camaro panels are shaped differently at the B pillar, and the back part of it (looking at it from the side) is cut at a 45 degree angle for the Camaro tail lights.

This topic is arguably non-tech, but interesting to me, anyway.
Repulse as it may, I have always liked the rear half of the T/A better than for the Camaro, but the front of the Camaro far more than the Firebird (Camaro by far overall). I like the Camaro interior better, too. I have always wanted to build such a hybrid. It would be very difficult, though, because there is no good transition point for the sheetmetal. The rear of the doors are shaped differently, the front of the doors are shaped differently (confirmation?) - I don't think Camaro front fenders will align with the front of Firebird doors. You probably can't install Camaro trim onto Firebird doors, either.
I don't know which way would be easier, either - put a Camaro front onto a Firebird or vice versa. My guess would be to re-skin the rear of a Camaro, but that's seriously difficult.
I would like to get hold of a decent IROC and do this. I would like to hear from someone who has actually done this sucessfully. However, until I get hooked up with someone with a body shop willing to help as a friend, not a customer, this project won't happen.

In the CamaroZ28.com board there is an article under the article section on a Camaro/TA that GM made to drive around and collect info while it's being drove. The link to the page is http://www.camaroz28.com/99fbody/index.html
And this is a pic of it.
I personally think that it looked kick ****!! I love the styling of the TA! Oh well, I don't work for GM so my opionion doesn't mean jack.

In response to DrPepper . . . Yeah I am sure it was a Firebird body. (they're shaped differently ) It was a dark teal color. I saw it on the 121 Freeway near Grapevine. Hmmm . . what else . . It was a little rough looking. Yeah - I know this is non-tech, but a good sighting none-the-less.
Off that subject . . . Is there a way to properly fawsten the louvers on the back window of my 83' so they do rattle when going 60+mph ? Thanks dudez
Peace,
Dragon

I don't think Camaro front fenders will align with the front of Firebird doors. You probably can't install Camaro trim onto Firebird doors, either.
The doors are the same....and the fenders will bolt the upper fender rails of either make; the only difference is in the front metal bumper (underneath the bumper cover) and the 'honeycombing' attached to it. Slap the proper hood onto it, and you've got yourself one gawd-awful looking rig.....

To save arguments...
Doors & structurally (minus minor details)the cars are the same , 82-84 & 85-92
Cosmetics are the only thing that truely makes the cars different.

I saw a Camaro with headlghts next to the license plates in the rear(yesterday) I am not sure if I liked it, but it was not too bad. It was definetaly weird, I wondered for a second if the guy belonged to this board.
Those Headlights by the licence plate or are to pursuade other vehicles that have 'tail-gaters disease' to kindly back away from your car. This is a guess . . . I am right guys ?
Peace

Yeah they're for tail-gaters but its better if you use off-road 4x4 fog lights.. IF your gonna make 'em back off, make 'em back off into the trees..
