Ok stupid question.. but can you do it? Say with after market heads, runners, and larger jets?

you will need either 350 injcters or an adjustable fuel pressuer regulater.

The hardware is identical. The only difference is the injector size. 19lb 305 injectors, and 22lbs 350 injectors.

If you say so... I used my same one. Part numbers I've checked say 85-89 TPI use one knock sensor, 90-92 TPI use a different one, irregardless of engine size.

is the MAF sensor the same? so the only diff. between 305 TPI and 350 TPI is injector size? does this include MAF sensored camaros (like my 85 Z-28 305 TPI) or just speed-density equiped camaros??

I am VERY interested!!!!

James

Kevin,
I don't know about the MAF cars but on the speed denisty cars, to my knowledge, the knock sensor is different for a 305 vs. 350.
I was not only told this by a local dealer but also by just about every auto parts store I called in this area when I did my 305 to 350 swap.
James, MAF is the same.

I bolted my 305 set up on a 350 with no problems. Then I went on to add other mods. Yes you will want to get a fuel pressure regulator, but you dont need it. I didn't change the knock sensor, didn't need to change the MAF. The MAF would probably be better to run a 350 anyways. MAF is easier to mod... its less sensitive to cam changes and the such. If anyone wants to argue me on this I will go into more detail about it.

You will need new fuel injectors unless you want your 350 to run REALLY lean.

Current Mods: Edelbrock TES Headers, Hooker Cat-Back System, Performance Resource Chip, 160* Thermostat, Accel 8.8mm Ignition Wires, K&N high flow air filters, gutted air box, gutted MAF sensor, Throttle Body Coolant By-Pass, Homemade Ram-Air, Falken ZIEX Z-Rated Tires.

I completely disagree with that lean statement, Dan87IROC-Z. Fellow here has a ZZ3 350 w/TPI, high flow aftermarket intake (extrude honed the intake and the heads together) and runners, big cam (bigger than the ZZ3), dual cat w/3" catback exhaust, AFPR, custom chip. He had 24 lb injectors in last year with a 58 mm TB, but needed to pass emissions this spring and put the 19's back in and the 52 mm TB back on. Passed emissions, went out to the track, and with no other mods except adjusting the fuel pressure up, promptly recorded his best time ever.

With the 24's in, he'd pass black smoke at every shift and most of the way through 3rd at the track, even with the fuel pressure backed down. With the 19's, no smoke, better times. Granted, this is at 5800' Bandimere, where the air is thin.

The AFPR is the key, as kjgroen said.

FYI: the higher the pressure, the more volume
is sprayed with each pulse. Also, TPIS claims
they got a better spray pattern on a 350
using 305 injectors.
