Buy some cheap ones first
Okay, I ported mine but it took me probably 3-4 weeks to take them off, port them and install them again, SO... get some junker heads at a scrap yard or on ebay. I got a pair for my 305 on ebay for $50. That way I could take my time and do it right and still enjoy my ride while I was porting.
BTW - I would recommend getting a 3 angle valve job since you'll have the heads off anyways - its worth at least 10HP.
Good luck and enjoy the HP - you'll really notice it!!!!

Funny, I grinded my AIR hoses off with the valve covers off without thinking.
Tried getting all the shavings out, but know I didn't. I hear a little grinding whenever I have to turn the motor over by hand when working on the car. But she is still running good.
Praise the pain tolerance of the SBC
