I'm your case, I highly recommend it. All those metal shavings
from porting will make your engine run so much better.

i am working on porting my first set of heads, it is pretty easy, just go slow and don't get in a hurry, and plan a couple of weeks do it because it takes alot of time.

also don't do them with them on you engine

Get a big shop vac, that sucks at 29309 psi and you can do the heads while they are on the motor.

You are scaring me now. NEVER do any kind of major grinding with the part still on the car with an easy entrance to the engine's internals. All those grindings will get into the bearings and ruin the engine.

Follow the link at the end of my sig for a good how-to

Buy some cheap ones first

Okay, I ported mine but it took me probably 3-4 weeks to take them off, port them and install them again, SO... get some junker heads at a scrap yard or on ebay. I got a pair for my 305 on ebay for $50. That way I could take my time and do it right and still enjoy my ride while I was porting.
BTW - I would recommend getting a 3 angle valve job since you'll have the heads off anyways - its worth at least 10HP.

Good luck and enjoy the HP - you'll really notice it!!!!

Funny, I grinded my AIR hoses off with the valve covers off without thinking. Tried getting all the shavings out, but know I didn't. I hear a little grinding whenever I have to turn the motor over by hand when working on the car. But she is still running good.

Praise the pain tolerance of the SBC
