I did my first mod whoohoo!!
ok ok its only a K&N but he it's a mod that will get a me a few extra ponies. The biggest one comes this weekend but I still havent decided on the headers or Catback. what would you guys do first. Also will running without a O2 sensor really fudge up your car? Ive been told i need it but the headers i want dont have a slot for it.
SLP headers , all the way , you get the best of both worlds - they are high quality stainless steal , and emissions compatable ! Not to mention the stock exhaust manifolds are literally boat anchors ;honestly , I am using them for anchors on good old Lake George.

Congrats on the mod! You have now taken the first step towards a better world... the world of speed and power!
Running your car without an O2 sensor will definitely fudge up your car. The sensor is one of the most critical sensors which the computer uses to fine tune the fuel delivery system. Re-think which headers you want for your car. Either buy a set which already has a fitting for an O2 sensor, or buy a set without a fitting and have a shop weld one in place.
The SLPs are good, but they are pricey. For a 305 engine, a set of Edelbrock TES headers won't be bad at all. Check some of the classifieds for possible used headers, also.

i think i may go with the Catback this weekend (Dynomax 2.75"). I will probably wait on the header's and save for a really good set. I hear alot about the Edlebrock TES all the time on here so I think i know the headers of choice for 3 genners are the TES. BTW how much will the TES's set me back?
Also will they bolt to my Y-pipe or will i have to get another one of those, and if so can you recommend a good brand?

From everything I've heard the TES are good headers. I have SLP's, but I bought those mainly because they're stainless steel, and I intend to own the car for a long time. The TES headers will set you back around $300. I think TPIS has them cheapest. They include all the hardward as well as the necessary y-pipe.

If you are going to get headers, get them from JET-HOT.They coat the inside and outside so they run cooler and last longer.

2.75"??? Why not go with a 3" cat-back?? You'll have to do it anyway before you start choking the engine when you add more mods to it. 3" all the way! Do it once and do it right!

When doing exhaust mods, you always want to start at the rear of the car. If you put headers in front of stock exhaust, your headers will majorly out flow the rest of the exhaust and it will create too much turbulance and won't help your performance all that much. Start with a good 3" cat-back from Hooker, Edlebrock, American Thunder (flowmaster), SLP or Random Tech. This will work wonders on your car.
