why is my car waisting gas?
hey i have a 89 camaro 5.0 tbi,i put on an open elment filterfrom mr gaskets and my muffler at the back was remove because it was rusted.what could be the reason that i put 5 bucks in it and i drive for like 10 min and its gonna it never waisted this much gas.what can it be ?the muffler missing or the air filter?help me out guys
Probably neither. It is more likely the installation that changed something. Make sure the IAT sensor is still connected. It may have been attached to your old air leaner.
Beyond that, you'll have to start troubleshooting from scratch. Any error codes?

you mean the sensor that is on the old base aircleaner that u install into the new bottom base of the open element i put it in but is not tight because the hole is bigger but its inside the base.trouble shooting for what i think its my injectors there shooting rough not smooth?
MIA305,
Well that will do it. As long as the IAT is electrically connected, an little loose fit in the air cleaner isn't a problem. Your injector spray patter, however, could be a problem. You should be able to observe a regular, cone-shaped pattern from under the injectors, with no streams or drips. A poor spray pattern can be a symptom of incorrect fuel pressure or dirty injectors.
I'd start with a fuel pressure test, then go from there. You should be reading 11-13 PSIG constantly with the pump running, regardless of load.
