PS Pump rebuild question
PS Pump rebuild question
Went thru my PS pump to clean it out and replace the O-rings - had it apart and cleaned out, then started reassembing it when I ran across something confusing....
When installing the cam ring and thrust plate, the assembly instructions that came with the rebuild kit mentioned a 'elongated' hole and a round hole, which are present in both parts...... but they were vague as to which holes to use to install the dowel pins. The shop manual was little help- it made no mention of the 'elongated' holes and did not even suggest which set holes to use....
Anyone run across anything like this before- and if so, which set of holes are correct to use when reassembling?
Thanks....

man i didnt even know it was possible to "rebuild" a power steering pump. ive never had a need to. chevy p/s pumps almost never wear out. mine has 130,000mi and still works great.
used to have a 92 taurus, bought it new and put almost 300,000miles on it. ran great when we sold it but damn we must have gone through 6 or 7 p/s pumps. damn ford technology

i rebuilt one in college....but still dont know what you're talking about. I've just always bought a new one if something went wrong, they're pretty inexpensive.
I could rebuild an alternator, or a starter too. But it just isnt worth the hassle seeing how cheap you can get a new one for. and seeing how nobody sells a rebuild kit for them. where'd you get a ps pump rebuild kit?
