ok every time i'm at a stop sign or something, when i start to take off it feels like i have my car in neutral and i'm stepping on the gas. it does the for about 2 seconds then takes off and goes like it should. i just had a brand new GM caprice motor put in. is it some minor? major? is it my mechanics fault that put it in? thanks

 

Do you hear a thunk like the trany is engaging when it takes of or not? Does the motor feel strong like it should or not? Could it be the torque converter?

 

well there is no thunk, that's broken tranny mounts right? but the engine feels powerful, just not until after it really takes off. it doesn't when i'm first starting to take off. i dont no about torque converter

 

if the engine revs and doesn't go anywhere its tranny related, seek professional assistence.

Did you have a high-stall torque converter installed? If so, that could be what is happening. Slippage till the converter reaches the rpm it can move the car at.

it's not that it doesn't move it does move. it just is slow like the take off of a four banger. i'm at a stop sign, i mash it to the floor taking off slowly for like two seconds then it starts to go fast.

Exactly what engine/transmission/year/model do you have? Knowing this always helps with the diagnosis of problems since components vary across years and models.

ok i have an 88 iroc with a brand new 350 caprice motor, TPI, and automatic tranny. i was just on my road about 15 min ago and going about 25. i step on the gas, goes the same speed for about two seconds the takes off really fast.

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
How old is the fuel pump?
Have you checked your fuel pressure to verify that it is correct?
Just a few possible ideas.
