I just got a tc from a TYPHOON , and its a "E" converter , has about 1660 stall . What is in a 88GTA stock? whats the speed ? Is this worth putting in ? I have a vortech on the car . I paid 170 for the tc from a GM dealership. Thanks

I'm not sure of the exact speed, but the one in my car is only about 1200 RPM. That's as high as I can rev the engine while holding the brakes when I launch at the track, at 1300 RPM my wheels start to spin.

I was really thinking the stock stall was around 1500-1600. The GM converter to buy is the "B" converter w/ a stall around 2050 or something like that.

See this post here from a couple days ago, it is all about this topic:

My stock converter stalled at about 1500, but if your going to spend money get a good after market converter. Trust me you will be happier. And 1,9's will be easy.

I think you guys are a little high. I read that the OE converter has a stall speed of 1100 RPM.

I threw in a 350 making app. 360ft/lbs in front of the factory converter on my '86 & it stalls around 2000rpm now, depends on how much torque your motor puts out.

My stock converter was an 'E' converter, rated at 1654 RPM. Swapped to a 12" 2000 stall converter when I got the tranny rebuilt, and it feels better... definately feels better. Not anything dramatic, but a noticeable difference, especially while getting on the gas from a roll.

The stock 10" converter on my '84 2.8L V6 stalls @ 2600 rpm, and the stock 12" converter on my '85 305 TPI stalls @ 1500 rpm. Another consideration when choosing a converter is the torque multiplication factor. Aftermarket units are typically higher than the stock units.
