*sigh* Steering column broke on me while turning under freeway overpass.

As I was turning left into the outter right lane when something broke as I straightened out the wheels but unfortunately I didn't get to straighten it out completely which caused me to almost hit a car and run into the concrete dividers as the car kept turning left(I hate the feeling when not being able to be in control of a situation). Fortunately I stopped in time only blocking the middle lane till I got my baby towed away about an hour later. I noticed that I had more heads turns toward my car in distress from fellow 3rd genners.

Ok well my main point is how difficult would it be to replace the whole steering column and how much may it cost. I got an estimate on a column from the junk yard for $40 so does this sound right? unfortunately that column was busted as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

You sure something broke inside the column? Have you looked at the rag joint? It connects the steering column to the steering box. CHeck that first. If you did kill the column, $40 is a good price on a column. I'd bet it's the rag joint though.------------------
