Should a knock sensor pick up pinging that might be caused by a lean mixture? Pinging as opposed to a knock, it doesn't sound as bad.

I saw someone else on the board call it that, i'll put it a different way as an edit above.

Yes it should and then it will start retarding the timing 2* at a time up to 20* total.
