Knock sensor and gas ping

Knock sensor and gas ping

Should a knock sensor pick up pinging that might be caused by a lean mixture? Pinging as opposed to a knock, it doesn't sound as bad.

Yes it should and then it will start retarding the timing 2* at a time up to 20* total.
