runs good then ten minutes later...
runs good then ten minutes later...
hey,
i have a 90 rs 305 tbi...
im still waiting to get it on the road so this is only based on a few times because i have never run it very long. got it a few months ago....
starts up great idles around 1600 or so i think, then after about 5 min prob levels down around 800.. (too low???) well when i drive around ( my back field
) everythign felt normal/great, but then about ten minutes later , the engien started gettign rough. it didn't idle very well and tried to stall. if you pressed the accelerator it would bog down like it was going to stall and then as you backed off a bit, pick back up...
is this a gas problem? to lean or rich? it seems to idle great on start up... not sure how i could be too lean or rich with a tbi or how to deal with it or check. its not liek its a carb that im adjusting...
what could be wrong? anything other than gas?
also as a side: any of you have a torsen? i ordered the take off from slp and its on its way in a few days (not holding my breath frm what i read) i ahve read alot that seems to contradict eachother on how these things feel/perform....
with a 305 tbi K&N and a 3" american thinder cat back can i break my one wheel with 2.73 gears?
i thinki want either 3.23 or 3.42 posi, wanted 3.42 for a while but i don't want to loose my gas milage and be cruising at too high of rpms on the highway... could i break loose 3.23 or 3.42 witha posi and this engine?
ok too long, thanks for all your help in advance..!

I had the same exact problem about a year ago when I finished installing my cam and put my topend back together. After I choked it, it would be fine for about 5 mins, then it would try and stall on me all the time, and it did many times. Well, I also had the bog, really bad bog, especially at WOT. So I took it to a motor shop, they said fuel pump. So they replaced that, and my ignition which was brand new
, and my fuel line. My car still bogs a bit if you try to go WOT a few minutes after it is started (cold) though. So I say go with a new fuel system, but make sure you don't go too high. With my cam, I am on my third fuel pump. The first two were too small, but too big is bad too. Good luck.

And by the way, no those mods with a 2.73 peg leg rear won't break your tire. In fact, if you go with higher gears it is more likely, but still very rare. You need to be making a lot of power with a steep gear in the back to break an axle. You have nothing to worry about, although I broke my posi at the track last year.

thanks for the reply,
if it continues i will prob try replacing the fuel pump...
and, no, i didn't mean breakign an axle or anythign, i jsut meant breakign the tires loose/wheel spin/burnout. with no brakes or anything, the previous owner just said yes, so in that case i could benifit from a lsd.
i jsut ordered a torsen take off from slp, shoud be off back order tomarrow... said they are waiting on a paddle pin and bolts.. but im not sure if this is waht i want.. if it keeps transferign power back and forth , how does it eel strait and turn?. i can't beat the price thoguh, im gonna still get it and if i don't use it i can alwasy sell it and loose little if not gain. if i use that i would prob go the the junk yard and get a total rear with 3.23 or 3.42 and rebuild it out of my car, don't want to risk hurting what is workign now, esp since its my first tiem on gears, but i wouldn't do it alone, my dad has before and for my grandfather it was his carreer.
but that power trax is pretty tempting, no gear set up. do most think a locker is too harsh for hte streets? will it be more dangerous accelerating out of corners? they work on all series open right? so i could put it in forst thing on my 2.73 then if i change later it would still work on a three series carrier? don't want to fish tail and turn sideways in a corner.
also from how i understand the torsen, it transvfers abck and forth so if you burn ot one tire spins more then the other and goes back and forth.. doesn't that make the back end squirrel side to side?? thansk again,
i just wish i didn't have to wait two mreo weeks still until i can see my car, then another onetill ic an prob. get it on the road...
looking forward to hearing frm everyone....

I've sot a lowly 305 and a 2.77 axle. I can turn both rear 245-16s into molten rubber if I want to stand on it that long. Your 305 should be able to do the same with a higher ratio if everything is in tune.
The axle should be fine on the street. You'll feel a definite lock under torque in turns, which could be "interesting" in marginal traction conditions, like on dirt or wet pavement.
Are you getting a ZT-1 or ZT-2 type?

im pretty sure its the zt-1, its which ever the $99 deal at slp is for taking them off the camaro ss. but im really having doubts that it is waht i want. i will prob. keep my order either way cause i don't see why i woudl ahve a problem sellign it, but im really considering the powertrax. it would be abotu the same price by te time im done i think within $100 and that way i woudn't ahve to worry abotu gear set up. i coudl throw it in with my 2.73's then when i want lower gears it will still work with a 3- series carrier right?
but how harsh are they my car will be 95% or more jsut street/daily driven. but i don't want the one wheel peel. but i also don't want to have my car difficult to handle in the corners...
do you know whith the power trax does it also occasionally ratchet going strait if the road is waivy or has dips? like the distance the two tires have traveled slowly changes then it clicks once?
WHAT SHOULD I DO!
yes i knwo you can't answer htat realy, but all info/opinion you have woudl be greatly appretiated..
also, with the locker, if i let someone borrow my car that is used to a "normal" car, are they going to put it in a ditch?
