Who knows something about an 85 T/A?

My friend just got an 85 T/A. I rode in it tonight. It is pretty quick. It has a 305 TPI and an automatic. Does anyone know anything about this car. Like the HP and torque numbers. Also if it is posi or not (she said it is) and what rear end gears it has?

Me and her are gonna race soon. I think my car could take it. Hers has 255/60/R16 tires so it has a little advantage over my 235's. Still, I think mine is a little faster. What do yall think about it?

14X3 open element, 3.73 gears, posi, dual 2 inch bendable exhaust, no mufflers or cats (kinda loud), 160* thermostat, relocated IAT, weight loss, lots-o-free mods and one hell of a crazy driver.

210HP and 270TQ stock. Its hard to say if its posi or not, should be. Probably a 2.73 gear. In any case, its a mid to low 15 car stock. I'd say unless you have changed your cam or done some porting to the heads, you arent going to stand a chance.... unless she cant drive.

Well, my car seems to pull a little harder than hers. I do have the gear advantage though. By a lot! 5 speed + 3.73's. Plus, with my mods, I bet my engine makes close to what hers makes.

The 85' has 3.23's, 205hp, and 275lb-ft torque. The Camaro was 215hp due to a better intake setup and was rated at 15.1-15.3 when it was new. The Firebird will get that 10hp back by junking the stock intake setup in favor of an 88' and later with a conical K&N instead of the airbox.

Your HP and TQ figures are incorrect, as is the 85 HAS a 3.23. My 85 had a 2.77 (Borg-warner diff).

You need to look at the build sheet in the glove box to find out what gears she has. There were many different sets of gears available for that year. I also believe the Hp of the automatic Firebirds in 1985 was 190.

85 TPI TA's were all automatics... so were 86's
The 85 TA did not have the peanut cam, and was rated at 210HP. I guess I have to scan the brochure.

The official numbers are 210hp for the TPI with a 3.27 rear standard 3.45 optional.

Direct from the original propaganda supplied by Pontiac.

That 5 speed had to have been put in later... There were NO TPI 5 speeds in 1985, the T5 could not handle the torque of the TPI.

The 1985 IROC I scrapped out two years ago for the transplant had 3.23's in it. My Firebird book shows 205 hp.

My Firebird Red Book says it was 205hp, but it could be 210. There are a few misprints in it. I know the Camaro was rated at 215hp(right from the brochure), and the Firebird was 5-10hp less depending on the intake setup. There were no factory 5-speeds with TPI until 87.
