Flooding

I have go a 90 Formula that does not like water. Something is getting wet on the underside causing it to flood. The simple symptoms are it runs like it is missing then dies at idle and won't start till it dries out. Runs great dry bad wet. Has anyone had this problem and have cause and fix.

Thanks

It is TBI and about wheel deep water or just heavy rain splashing. You can recreate the symptoms by letting the car run and taking a hose and squirting underneath like you are washing out mud. It is almost instant when the water hits whatever is causing the car to flood. I do know it is toward the back of the engine.

Thanks

One of your electrical components are getting wet, like the starter or alternator. Probably your starter. make a splash guard out of some flashing that you can buy at the hardware store and put that on around the starter. It worked on an old (POS) dodge truck I used to drive.

That makes sense.......does GM on my 90 Firechicken wire the battery to the starter to the alternator and that is why as long as I keep the engine wound above 2 grand it runs ok becasue I am getting juice from the alt and not from the starter?

Basically. Trucks meant to go through feet-deep water have sealed alternators and starters, along with their snorkels.
