My car is having a few problems

Ok here is the deal..this wasnt so much of a prob awhile ago didnt happen as often..but here is what happens...the car idles rough and likes to stall out very frequently sometimes even on acceleration. And on startup each time it smells like emissions and gas pretty strong. I am not pulling any codes now i checked according to my ECM my car is running as it should. I used a fuel system cleaner and it didnt really help in fact i used it 2 times. Any ideas??? I had the timing set not too long ago and my o2 sensor is changed as well. Any ideas of what it could be??? thanx

Nikki

Check the easy things first, if you haven't already. Spark plugs and cap/rotor can give you the problems you describe. Change them out for new, and it definitely wont hurt. Running fuel system cleaners thru your engine can leave deposits on the plugs. I know that from personal experience, as my new plugs got so fouled up that they were causing a miss on 2 cylinders. Oxidized contacts on the inside of the distributor cap and rotor tip will give a weak spark, further complicating the problem. And this too can happen, even with a newer cap and rotor. I just put one in about a month ago, started to experience poor idle, checked it after changing plugs, and it was already looking oxidized! Get a good quality one for sure. After that, if you see no difference in the way it runs, move on to timing, Throttle Position Sensor, and injectors. Search the board for each of these issues, as information abounds! Hope this helps, Eric.

ahh well last week while i was looking behind the distributer for the oil pressure sensor i kinda knocked one of the clips out and ever since it doesnt wanna stay in right..but i plugged it back in as tight as i could and the problem still happens. The spark plugs are brand new, and i have a new accel HEI supercoil cap and rotor. Im thinking possibly the fuel injectors need replacing cause they are orig from 1985 im pretty sure. Do you guys think i should go with the Accel Injectors i saw in my summit racing calalog??

Everything I have heard about the Accel Injectors sounds positive, I have been looking at doing the same, as mine (87) are the originals as well, and I get a slight stumble in my idle too. Do a search on Ebay for Accel Injectors, I have seen new ones going for $100 a set (but they go quick). I dont see any up at the moment, but keep looking, and you can probably find them. Even at $220 or so from Summit or Jegs, still not a bad deal.

Factory injectors on a TPI 305 are 19 lbs, 24 lbs for a 350.

If this is the 305, it needs 19 lbs/hr.
