car alarm...

I also posted this in Car detailing and appearence and detailing section...
I'm installing a car alarm: Audiovox AA-9347. Has starter kill, parking lights flasher. Bought all the necessory hardware (relay). I need to gain access to wires from ignition switch. Where are these wires? What colors are they? Please help...
1987 Firebird formula, power windows (no power locks), 4 barrel, gauge cluster (tach, speedo, temp, volt, oil pressure, fuel), NO accessory in ignition (in other words, I can't turn the key towards me to accessory position, there is none)
Thanks,
Kyle Donohue (Ponty87bird@aol.com)

When I installed my Crimeguard on my other
Camaro, I had to drop the steering column to giain access to the wring harness there for the starter kill. Look in the Haynes or Chiltons manual for the wiring diagram of the ignition to fins the correct color wires.

You might also want to intercept the fuel pump power line, or the pink/black "IGN" wire that goes to the remote HEI coil. Please use a relay tho!!!!

I intercepted the ECM IGN fuse. The result is, the car cranks & cranks & cranks & cranks, but won't start.

Your starter wire runs up the front of the motor just to the left of center (passenger side). You can trace it by seeing what color coding it has at the starter. Use a volt meter and shave the insulation before cutting it to be sure. It is a thick wire, @ 10 gage.

BTW: I agree with using the coil method also as its not so obvious that you have an alarm and if they run the battery down they can't steal it so easy. I personally do not use an alarm anymore as they broke my window to see if it was an audio alarm and then just took what they wanted. I use a hidden kill switch.

you can find most of your wires just off to the right of the steering column

thick red=12v
thick pink=ignition
thick orange=accessories
thick yellow=starter sometime but rare it is a thick purple.

doortrigger is white at courtesy lamp down by kickpanel

lightflash is brown at headlight switch or gray at shiftplate light.
