does anyone know if all the aluminum rear main seal housings are the same? i.e. LT1, L98, and Vortec will interchange?

I used an LT1 seal housing in my '88 L98, so I know those two are compatible. No reason the Vortec piece wouldn't be.

They may very well be different part #s, but still interchange, in your application. The reverse might not be true (i.e., a LT1 one might work fine on a L98, but a L98 one might not work at all on a LT1). "Works in your application" does not necessarily mean "same part number". The guy behind the counter would have no way of knowing whether 2 parts with different part numbers would both work in your personal situation.

 

well damn... I missed the one on Ebay from the Vortec because of the dude from the dealership. The LT1 unit is going for like $40 bucks now. New L98 unit runs about $50.
