tach/distributer problems!

I was racing a turbo focus the other day when in 2nd gear, my car died. I thought the worst. After trail and error, I found that the button under the cap of the distributer was a little dirty, and the contact was too far off. I wire brushed the button and adjusted the contact. It started up fine and idled fine. I hooked up my tach after I shut it off, and it wouldn't start back up. I tried hooking it up while it was running and the engine would just die like it was losing power. Any suggestions?

Check all the wiring and connecters to the coil and distributor. I've had similar problems and it was a loose connection once, pinched wire at the cap another time.
