High crankcase pressure ??????
Hay all .....
I got kicked off the track this Saturday.....because I was leaking oil . The thing is ...... it is comeing out of the dipstick tube . It seems when I am hard on it ...... it pops the dipstick tube out and .....spits oil out onto the exaust. Also , the crankcase vent tube ( passenger side rocker cover) ..... isn't clogged but ...there is oil travelling up it as well ....into the throttle body ..... so ......
I am haveing a compression check done today at GM ( I sure as hell aint doing it LOL ) . I was wondering if anyone has any insight into these symptoms.
PCV valve ....new
crankcase tube .....not clogged ....but oil is traveling up it and into the Throttlebody
there is a good vacuum at the PCV valve .....increases with RPM
dipstick popping out of the tube ....and oil comeing out of it
I appreciate all feedback

89Z,
Don't be disappointed when the compression test results are returned with some pretty low numbers. If you are paying for the test, you might ask for a cylinder leakage test instead. It can reveal a lot more, specifically, the source of the low compression pressure. However, with your high crankcase pressure under load symptom, you are more than likely going to get bad news about your pistons and rings.

this will end all mods to this engine .......
but .... do you figure I can drive around for the season ...with bad rings ? Other than the obvious smokeing issue from the oil on the exaust ...... loss of power ..... do ya figure it will run for the season?

it'll keep running no problem as long as a ring doesn't break obviously. The amount of blowby you seem to be getting is something to think about but you should last the season no problem. I get a fair amount of blowby also and used to get a little oil coming up through the crankcase breather also... took all that out now and just use breathers instead. Try that as it might free up more pressure and keep your dipstick from coming out.
I was supposed to be out at Sparta with you guys on sunday but didn't make it. Next time for sure tho

I just had that problem for some reason. While at the track I used some electrical tape to hold the dipstick in. Oil was spraying onto the bottom of my hood. I have put new rings in since then. No problems now.

i suggest you keep driving EASY till you get the "dinero", dont do anymore racing, nice and slow until you can get a 350, make it last for a while.

I'm having similar problems, but with a 1200 mile new 383. I figure my rings didn't seat right or they got blown to shreds when I had my timing accidentally advanced to about 40deg base. When you do a new engine (350+) be sure to use moly rings and make sure you have someone triple check the ring end gaps. Also triple check all your bearing clearences, this should make your engine run great for many miles. Be sure to get good (forged) pistons also, this is one place you should not skimp on either. The next most important item is cylinder heads, but I'm sure you know that. I posted in the TPI forum about ring problems a moth or so ago under, Bad rings with 600 miles. I got a little help, but no real answers.
Same problem..bought my 92 RS like that..kinda sorta solved the problem..all the oil gets trapped in the air cleaner assy...i just take it off..drain out the oil and clean it up. Friends giveing me a 305 that needs rebuilding..just hope mine can hold up till i get it built..
