Steering Box

I've finaly found my PS leak, its the steering box... Now to find some info, what should one of these run? (money wise), is it worth getting one from the junk yard?, and i've heard some models had different turning ratios.. is this true? thanks in advance

Get one with a Z stamped on it. If you get it from a Z28 or a WS6 equipped car you should be ok. I got mine shipped from a user from Canada for about $80.

What dose the "Z" on it mean? And why do you say "If you get it from a Z28 or a WS6 equipped car you should be ok." If i get one from an RS will it not go back togeather easy?

I just had to replace mine. it cost me $150 w/tax at O'Reilly.
I also came to find out the Z being stamped on it doesnt mean any thing. my old one had a z on it but my new one doesnt, and I know I got the correct one because it was looked up and ordered by the part # from the original one.

I would add if you think you are up to it you can rebuild your old one for $30.

IIRC, the WS6 cars got a constant ratio steering box with a 12.7:1 ratio. I don't specifically know the "standard" box ratio, but it should be a variable ratio and from around 15.1:1 to 13.1:1 (variable depending on position from center).
