Distributor is STUCK! How do I get it out?!?!?

It's an LG4 engine. I'm trying to get the cylinder heads off so they can be rebuilt, but the distributor refuses to come out. (so I can't get the intake off) I've tried penetrating lube and hammering on the shaft, but no luck. There's about a millimeter of play left and right, but no play up or down. It's like it's fused to the block! I'm out of ideas!
Has anyone else had this problem? What do I do? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I don't think there is really much trick to it..just need more brute force. try to pry it up with a 2x4 across the manifold, and then either a big crow bar or another 2x4 under the distributer.

This may sound simple, but did you remove the distributor hold down screw?

I came across this a couple times before. Usually the motor is pretty caked up with sludge, and it can be a real pain to get out. I would get some gum cutter and spray it down the dist. hole and let it sit about 20 minutes... then try to pry out the dist. Keep messsing with it, and eventually it will free up.

Thanks guys. I've been trying the crud-cutting spray, but I've only been pulling on it by hand. I didn't really want to try and rip it out of there, but it looks like I'll have to risk it. (and yeah, I did remove the hold down bolt!)

I had this problem on a friends V6 Camaro. It was the o-ring that had fused itself to the block. Just had to keep pulling and twisting to get it to come out. A real PITA. Good luck.

well hopefully it wont come to this, but to get the distributer out of a friend of mines truck we had to use 3 2x4's that were about 4 feet long, with all of us jumpin up and down on the... needless to say we just bought a new ditributer

hey man i know what you are going through. this is what i did. 1st i got a can of wd40 and sprayed he **** out of the base of the distributer. let it sit for about 30 min. then i worked it back and forth even if it was just alittle bit and i tapped on it with the hammer (assuming you got the cap, rotor, module off) and put the hammer under there and pryed on it from 3 differnet angles. sprayed the **** out of it again. let it sit. tapped the distributer on top to loosen the crud it rusted to and repeated for 2 hours untill it budged. this will slowly bring the distributer out and finally it wll just pop right out. MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE SHAFT WITH SAND PAPER BEFORE YOU DROP IT BACK IN. SATURATE IT WITH WD40 AND WORK IT AROUND!! after you are done. you will basically be able to lift it with one finger out of there goodluck

Yes! I finally got it. Thanks for the help everyone. I was out messing with it a little while ago. A neighbor I know came by and helped me out, and with the two of us twisting and prying it came out. After that, the intake and heads just came right off, fortunately (I had already taken everything else off). The bad news is that it looks like everythings pretty junked up and corroded in there from sitting so long, and also from the initial break-down. The cylinder walls have rust corrosion and crud in them, so, it looks like it's RIP for the ol' LG4.
