Cam selection.

Hey there guys.

I bought an 86 camaro sport coupe about 2 years ago.Since then the motor and trans have been pulled.

I lost interest in the car.(not third gens just this car)

Now I have 2 old chevy trucks as toys.and a engineless camaro sitting behind my house a mom at the end of her witts with a crazy gearhead son.

I have a 79 350 4 bolt shortblock.I can put this 350 with spare parts.Except I need to buy a cam and lifters.

I will be using a torquer 2 intake and a edelbrock 600cfm carb. The convertor will be a summit built 1900 stall.I am going to a junkyard to find a good posi rear.Something around a 3:42 ratio.

What cam would you guys suggest for a 350 with a stock pistons,home ported 305 heads,torquer 2 intake,and a 600cfm carb.

I should be able to get the car running for under 200 bucks that is my plan.Any advice?

The rear gears right now are 2:73's.The rear is going to be changed to a posi unit with something like 3:42's.

What was the lowest gear ratio offered in third gens. And what is the RPO code.

The heads I am not sure of the casting #'s.I know there 305 heads off an 80's chevy truck. The only reason i am using them is for the small chambers to raise compression.

The car will have headers and 2.5 inch true duals.

I would go with better heads.Like I said though I am trying to do with with little spending as possible.

Thanks.

The heads will likely be these.

casting # 3795896.I looked them up and they seem to be a 327 head with 60cc chambers. Are these any good?

Thanks.
