what cam to use?

I have an 89 GTA 5.7, and putting a cam in it. I have SLP 13/4 headers, cold air box, air foil, hypertech Chip, I plan on putting the big mouth intake on as well, it will probably be a mild build up, and eventually get the afr 190 heads with the larger runners, throttle body, and bored out plenum. any suggestions on what cam to use? SLP, etc...????????????????

I've had good success with the GMPP ZZ4 cam, and its not that expensive either. You could also use the TPIS ZZ9 cam, but at $375 its expensive, try to find one used. Other good choices are the LPE 211 or LPE 219 cam.

You got to be careful cause any cam with a lift over .500 lift, and I'm assuming you have a L98 since you bought a hypertech chip, you'll need a custom chip!
More big bucks!
I think there is a tech article or FAQ here that list the different cams for the thirdgen cars.
I have a ZZ9 cam but I had to get a Level 5 chip that cost $500! Found out later that Performance chips would do it for around $400! Oh well my lost for not reading around before doing it. However I am very happy with the cam and the car's performance. Pulls strong from idle and REALLY strong at 3000rpms. I need the big mouth intake to take full advantage of it. To come next year!
Good Luck!

Actually, concerning chips, a cams computer friendlyness is not so much determined by lift (if at all) its determined by duration.
However, a cam with .5 inch lift or more is going to need aftermarket springs as the stock ones wont cut it which is where the main concern should be here.
Dont be afraid of the computer stuff you could write your own chip for far less than 500 dollars but if you stay conservative you might not have to. Kevin is having fantastic results with a basically stock chip in a speed density car no less. Id agree with his cam suggestions aswell.
