Put 305 in '80 Z28?

I will be building a 350 and a friend is interested in my 305 for his '80 Z28 four speed car. We have been told that the 305 is internally balaced, but his old 350 may be balanced with the flywheel. Can we do this swap? Thanks.

Whoever told you that is right, but they got it backwards.

The 305 has a 1 pc rear main seal. Because of the design of the rear of the crank, they weren't able to put a counter weight (aka 'throw') on the back of the crank, so they relied on the flywheel/flexplate.

As long as you use the correct flywheel/flexplate it'll be fine. You don't really have a choice anyway. The bolt pattern on the 1 pc rear main seal cranks are smaller anyway.
