LT-1/LT-4 questions?
LT-1/LT-4 questions?
Ok, heres the deal. How do you tell the difference between the LT-1 and the LT-4, secondly, can you give me some info on the motors (I.E. H.p.,torque) and anything else you can think of about them. I don't know squat about those motors, are they desirable or worthless? you know, the general scoop on them. thanks
well its official, it's a 2 bolt main LT-1 that has all the internal appearances of a new motor. now all the real questions will come out.
1: can I remove the fuel injection stuff and go with a carb set up
2: can I remove the opti-spark stuff and use a regular dist.
3: can I use a standard water pump and fan set up.
4 should I just sell the motor or trade it for a high performance older motor and avoid all the hassals of changing everything over.
the reason I'm asking is it's going in a bracket car and I don't want to run a computer or anything like that.

You can even go as far as installing the older style heads on the engine with a little modification, but I wouldn't. The LT1 heads with proper porting and valves will outflow many aftermarket heads right out of the box.
You can also have the intake machined to accept a "standard" distributor and use an older batch-fire ECM to control the whole thing.

thanks for the replys, bear with me on this as I am new to the whole LT-1 stuff.
I have searched but can't find alot of info about reconfiguring these motors, so far it sounds like a good foundation for a strong motor. my main concern is if I can make it work in my bracket car, I would rather run a carb insted of the FI. just to save on the wiring and computer stuff, will a standard carb intake fit on the motor using the LT-1 heads. also I am assuming the timming on the factory unit is controlled via computer so I would like to do away with that as well and run a vacuum advance dist., also I'm sure I'll have to run an electric fan setup due to the lack of a standard water pump.
it sounds like I'll have to pretty well undo everything GM tried to do when they designed this motor, do you think I'd be better off selling it to someone who wants the motor for a street car and using that money to buy a older more standard motor for my bracket car ?
sorry for all the questions but I am trying to understand everything and I hate to ruin a great motor just to make a play toy out of it, if someone else can get better use out of it then that may be the better way to go for everyone.

im using a 94 block with LT4 heads and a carb..
theres really not that much to do to run it..
other then the water pump thats basically it
like vader said the heads can be modified but its not worth it.and it can be run off a batch fire system..
there a really well designed motor...the heads get the coolant first so you can runmore compression...although the fact that there reversed cooled isnt the only reason that more ompression can be used...sequential fire and the timing are the others
id use it and not look back..well i am lol

so basically what you saying is, I could run it with a carb but it would be better reusing the fuel injection parts and putting a computer on it. if so do you know anywhere where I can find the necessary instructions and or diagrams + parts ( harness, comp.) and stuff.
I don't have access to the car the motor came from so getting the stuff from there is out. and I know I don't want to spend 350.00 for a painless harness.
