Can a K&N filter screw over my car?

One day i was doing the "free mods" on my air inlet sys.. So I pulled everything off.
I my engine looked really cool w/out in sys on there. And everybody dream about having a nice cam sound and a aluminum lung sticking through the hood. So I started the motor. It ran like sh*t. I figured it was because there was no restriction, no map sensor or maf sensor. I've always wanted that hot rod look under the hood. And I found a K&N filter that is coned and hooks right up to the throttle body. So what do I do w/ all those sensors in my air inlet sys.. will my engine run like crap if their off. Or can i do something to actatully use them w/ the filter?
I seem to be asking these q&a's everyday,
I wonder if anybody has noticed

Thanks for any help!

BTG,

First, what year/model are you working on? If the engine had a MAF and assocoated plumbing before your filter installation, you are going to have to replace the original hardware or convert to a speed-density system. Converting would involve replacement of the ECM, PROM, anr either modifying or replacing the engine wiring harness. There is probably a K&N filter element designed to work with your original filter housing, but it won't be the type that connects directly tp the TB.

Also, with that filter, your sucking in a whole bunch of freash hot radiator air! NO GOOD MAN! hot air we all know makes less hp than cold air. You would be better off, rather than converting to speed density, in getting a cold air box like slps, or making your own, which isnt to difficult!

I have a 86 tpi vette. Also, i work at evans pontiac. And the sevan series t/a we have has these awsome lou gouliti(G2) deep dish rims. Would that rim use the same bolt pattern? I've wanted the new 5 star vette rims, but then I found out they have a different bolt pattern now!
thanks
