Skel,

Normally, I'd suggest some heat on the fittings, but that will have an obvious disadvantage in this case. You may need to apply penetrating oil over the course of several days to allow enough time to penetrate the threads enougn to get the filter free. Another thing that can help is shock or impact, but it would be far to easy to crack the die cast carburator body in this case.

Anyone else?

Skeletor, go to the store and buy a can of rust penetrator/inhibiter, and spray the snot out of the screwed on end. Wait about 15 min, get a line wrench and a cresent wrench, andtweak it off. Hope that helps.

Best Stuff I've ever used is from GM calle Heat Valve Penetrant. Works on everything pretty quickly.

i had the same trouble. what i had to do was get a special pair of vice grips, the pair that holds nuts on 3 sides ( ) and use that cuz the small fiting was loose. then i put a big wrench on the filter housing and kept that tight while i yanked on the pair of vice grips... what a pain in the *** , i will be switching to mostly rubber line soon, so i can put an inline filter in and a carb spacer.

Never ever use vise grips or pliers on the hex nuts! Try tapping it with a metal object (not banging, just hard tapping) and some penetrating oil. Also please, please get yourself some closed wrenches with the cutout (specifically for tubing nuts), I believe you need 5/8" and 11/16" (or 3/4"). Sears has a complete set for like under $40.

no vise grips or plires? oops. heh. ok i wont try to use those anymore.. and i have been tapping on it.. im thinking about getting a big hammer to bang on it.. it wont help me at all, but it makes me feel better

what i'll just do besides get proper tools, just keep dumping penetrating oil on it.. i'll be back in a few days if i still have problems.. like a broken fuel line cause i used the hammer idea.

well, i was assuming that the nut was already stripped as mine was. the 3 sided vicegrips do not squash or strip the hex nut how ever.

Sorry about that! u SHOULD use a set of fitting wrenches on any type of a fitting however!

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
And use some anti-seize on the fittings and inside the inverted nut when you reassemble everything! It'll save you some grief next time...
