Which govener?

My new tci tranny in my 86 Z shifts way too early. Ive heard someone say your govener has to match your rear-end gears. I have also heard from others that i should just go get a corvette govener. I have 2.73 gears and will prolly have 3.42 gears in the future, (maybe 1 year). I dont have my old tranny to take the govener out of. What should i do? thanks

If its a 700r4 the TV cable is probably misadjusted. I bet thats what your problem is.

The tv cable is properly adjusted but that doesnt control the shift points in the first place. Any other ideas?

The TV cable can affect the shift points. But it will only get you so far. If you are at the point where adjusting the TV cable has no effect on the shifts then it is your governer. Has the governer been replaced recently? Did the car just start shifting early?

Its a brand new tci tranny. This happened on the first tci tranny they sent me. Now it has happened on the 2nd tranny they have sent me. Out of the box it has shifted like this. So should i just go ahead and get the vette converter or....?

b/m makes a governor recalibration kit. the governor can be accessed from the drivers side. there is a round cup you pop open and just pull the governor out. a little fluid will come out. there are springs connected to the weights. you will need to put stronger springs in. had to play with mine to get it to shift where i wanted.

The Pro-built tranny that I just put in was shifting too early so maybe TCI is putting a different governer in there than what you need. Dana sent me a new governer that changed my shift points from 4200 to 5500.

Thanks Dana, It's working great.
