When does the govener kick in?
My 85 2.8 can just keeps pulling on the highway .. ive never hit a revlimiter or govener , do i have one? She pulls slow but keeps pulling and the 85 mph speedo makes me guess how fast but ive definately done about what definately felt like 120 then had to back off cause a big turn or something.

dont worry dude..my 87 iroc is the same way(350 tpi)..ive burried the needle like 4 times (240k/h or like 160m/h?) and no signs of slowing down..and that was in 4th...not sure if certain cars got them or not..maybe you should ask this question in the history..and see...

you should have a rev limiter, but its up around 6500rpm, something you will rarely see while driving.
to see if its working right, drop it in neutral and mash down the gas, it should rev up REALLY fast and then the rev limiter should kick in and RPM's will drop back down.

You know what sucks? When had my 700r4 I could bury my 110 mph speedo without hitting a governor. But now that I have a T5 and a new PROM for the manual, I get STONEWALLED by the speed governor at about 108 mph. Not cool.
Never could figure out why my auto didn't have a governor.

i know my 3.1's governor kicks in at 115, so you might have that. if you can't see how fast you're going after 85mph, its hard to tell how fast you're going around 110, so you mighta just not hit the governor yet. not sure if the 2.8's were diff. from the 3.1's though

I had a 3.1L camaro before it got smashed up, I know I had that thing reving really high before, well over 6500 and never hit a governor. It had a tranny problem, and wouldn't shift up on its own untill a little after 7k somtimes it was even worse than that. If I didn't crash the thing i'm sure I would have blow it up by now.
To make it shift you had to get off the gas, it would shift, then get back on right away or it would downshift again. I don't remember exactly what I had to do to make it shift but somthing wiered like that, so the thing was always over reving.
