My New and Improved Problem, PLEASE HELP!
My New and Improved Problem, PLEASE HELP!
Ok If any of you remember a few weeks ago while removing the smog pump me and my two buddies hit the TV cable and screwed up all the shift points. After a day or two of fiddling with that TV cable in order to bring the shift points down we started to run in to this new problem. The problem of NO POWER, we first thought this was from the TV cable being out of adjustment, but once we got it to shift right and the car still sucked, we got worried.
When you roll from a stop the car has no low end power, none. zelch. When you get the RPMS up there some of the power comes back and the car feels better. When you romp on the gas the car does the same thing, now power till high RPMs. It is worse if you are at a stop and try to make a turn, the car really bogs down and kind of lerches till the wheels are straight then it sucks as usuall.
On the highway it takes awile for the car to get up to 65, maybe full throttle to get there, and it still takes awhile. When your cruising around 65-70 and want to pass some one you have to put the peddle all the way to the floor for any response and when it finally starts to move it takes awhile for the car to pick up speed and get enough power to pass.
When the car is in park or neutral the engine sounds "fine" to me anyway, its been 3 weeks and a few days since I've had the car running right so Im starting to second guess the sound. My buddy KZad was over one night and said the car sounded decent but it sounded like when the engine was reving it was having problems, that it took awhile to rev up and when it came down it just came down there was no variation.
I checked all plugs n wires, I had ONE HORRIBLY fouled pluge, the number 8 plug was covered in oil, grit and build up. So once I replaced this plug and checked the car was no better. I then went on to check ingnition at the Cap and rotor, there are no burn marks or cracks, then I checked the fuel spray from the injectors, they are nice and uniform with now gaps. I've checked for Vaccum leaks....nothing.
I took the car to a tranny shop before I started checking all of this and his farted around for about 20 min, he took it for a spin, played with the TV cable and such and told me he wasn't a tranny problem that the car was shifting fine, that it was a engine problem.
So thats where I am guys, one dead Camaro, and one frustrated PORK. Any ideas where I should head next or anything? Could that number 8 be tottally screwed and I have no compression or barely be my problem? In passing some one said TC but that doesn't explain for the sound of the engine, but is there a way to check on that for sure? Any help guys...any help....

PP,
Get your hooves around a compression tester. Remove all those new plugs and hold the throttle wide open. Screw in the tester and crank away. That alone may reveal some issues, or at least eliminate some possibilities.

Have you tried to reset the timing??? I don't know, but if your were fartin around with the TV cable, you may have knocked the distributor one way or the other. Or maybe knocked a wire loose on the distributor.
Vader, I'm gonna do the compression test this weekend see what I can see, if its bad, the 305 is gone.
Yeah the belt is on right, but I will check again cant be too certain, and yea I checked the cap and all the jaz, it seems to be fine, now wires loose or anything like that, but like the belt, I'll check it again...can't be to carefull
