shaft stuck in the distributer

I yanked my distributer today to put a new pickup coil in it. everything went fine until i tried to slide the shaft out. It slides up about 6" then gets stuck. so far I just removed the ign. module and took the gear off of the bottom of the shaft. Am I missing a step? or is my shaft/housing damaged?

thanks, Nick

When it's old, it'll do that. Just yank on it until it comes up!

yep...took about a half hour of me and a big friend tugging on each end. popped in my new pickup coil and module, started her up, and heard the wonderful sound of my engine misfiring. I don't think im ever gonna get this thing fixed...ran out of things to replace...

thanks, nick

Yeah, ancient oil spooge build up on the shaft and prevents it's easy removal.

yup i lined up all the marks i made, and checked the timing afterwards (6 degrees base timing). I replaced everything in the distributer (along with a ton of **** outside the distributer) to fix the misfiring, but it didn't work. Im taking out the injectors today to have them cleaned...hopefully that will solve my problem...
