Why is my oil pressure so high?

This has always been something that bugged me, but I never paid it much attention. My oil pressure gauge always reads past 60 when I crank the engine. When I turn the car off, it goes back down to 0. IIRC, it did this with my old 305 too.

I have a new sending unit in there (actually, two of them- one next to the oil filter and one in the intake manifold). The needle goes all the way up when I turn the kay to the 'run' position...all of the gauges are activated at that point. Is my gauge at fault? My oil level is ok...I can't think of anything else that would cause this. The engine has less than 500 miles on it.

Thanks

I have the exact same thing happening on my RS. I haven't paid it much respect but if anyone has any ideas on it.

I think they are all like this, because mine does it and any other Camaro or Firebird I have been in had done it as well.
