Picture favor. Engine(kinda)

I have my new engine in, but while hooking back up the wiring, I forgot where the positive side of my battery hooked up to, one wire goes to the starter, the other is a real thick one not hooked up, anyone able to go out to there car and trace it and tell me where its headed? I have the small thin one hooked up to the alternator as well.

thanks

i've got my chiltons here, and it shows the negative to ground, and on some 3rd gens, there's 1 positive cable to just the starter, and in others there's 1 to the generator, and one to the starter. on the engines with 2 positive wires, the black goes to the starter, and the black and red, or just red goes the generator.

Which ground the one that goes into the adjusting plate for the alternator? I believe so. Im just a little confused I guess, How does the instrument panel and what not then get its power then? I will have to take a picture of what I am talking about I think

I put a chevy 350 block in, with the starter from the 305 so I thought nothing electrical changed.

from what i could tell from my car, which is a 86 2.8, so it's probably different, the negative battery cable goes down to ground on part of the passenger wheel assembly. and there is a large cable from the positive terminal that gets split, one goes to the starter, and the other a smaller one goes to the alternator. my guess is that the other wiring from the alternator goes to the fuse box inside the car and runs the appliances. i'll try to look some more tom.

If it's the positive battery cable, it goes to the large terminal of the starter solenoid. There should be some smaller wires there also; 2 is pretty typical.
