new engine and oil iblows out the dipstick

I have a new GM engine with about 10K miles on it in my 91z28 and Ive been noticing that a large amount of oil is coming out of the dip stick tube. I have oil splashing on my valve cover and hood from it. there is also a lot of oil leaking out of the PCV gromment and the other breather grommet. The PCV and hose are fairly new too. What causes this? its getting to the point where I can smell oil burning from it splashing on my header

Make sure the PCV valve is working. I know that you say it's fairly new but check to see if it's sucking. Blowby is causing this to happen. It's when cylinder pressure is getting past the piston rings into the crankcase. I wouldn't think that your rings would be shot in only 10,000 miles but I've heard of the cylinders glazing over causing them not to seal correctly. The cure is to take it apart and hone the cylinders.

PCV is working. take it aprart and hone the cylinders,, ya right. If Im gonna go that route then its time for a performance rebuild. This is the 2nd GM engine that has given me problems. The last one lasted 5 minutes and blew up. Both engines are from Jim Pace Parts warehouse.

also, you say that with blowbye, pressure is leaking into the crankcase huh.. I had a small oil leak from from the oil pan afer I first started her(go figure a brand new engine with a leak), now the leak is severe. Im guesing that the excssive pressure from the blowbye is pushing the oil past the oil pan gasket. Great a 15 minute job to fix and 15 hours just to get to the gasket.

I know how you feel. I just had to redo mine because of the blowby. Oil was coming out of the dipstick onto the bottom of the hood and dripping on my headers. Every gasket was leaking. Now since I went through it it's not doing it anymore.

Do you mean to tell me that a Chevy motor can actually be built NOT to leak and/or burn oil?!!! I thought that was just figured into the motor.

Well, so far it hasn't leaked. I'm not saying it won't but I did use one of those 1 piece oil pan gaskets. I really like those things.

I already have an oil pan gasket and want to install it but now that I have this blowby problem, I dont want to change it out and have the new one blow out too.
94, what did it cost you by the time it was all done? This is my second GM engine that ****s the bed and Im really pissed.

It wasn't too much. I went to Advance Auto and bought the stuff. Here is a list of what I bought.

1. Gasket set
2. Piston rings
3. Rod bearings
4. Oil and filter

I already had a hone to hone it with and I pulled it out myself. You can order the rering kit from www.summitracing.com for about $70.00 to $80.00. I had about $100 in mine. I didn't have to pull the cam out or the crankshaft. I did mine in about a week. I worked on it almost every night when I got off work. It's cheap to do yourself but it takes a while to get the pistons clean. I'm a clean fanatic when it comes to assembling an engine.

Mine had less than that. Probably about 5000 at most. You'd be surprised at the carbon that gets into the piston ring grooves.
