I know it will fit, I've seen one at one of our cruise inn's we have here in Virginia Beach. It was an 85 Camaro with a 454 with a big blower on top. He had to do a little cutting and move the radiator forward a little bit. He also had a removable hood with a big hole cut into for the top of the engine to stick out of.

A 454 will go.

The 455 is a Buick/Olds/Pontiac motor that won't bolt up to the trans.

Hooker made a kit to do the 454 BBC swap....I think I have a P.A.W catalog at the shop that shows the kit.

I'll look tomorrow.

427 and 454 are externally the same, much as a 305 and 350 are the same. Internally, they are the same bore; the 427 has a shorter stroke (3.75") which is the same as a 396 or 402. In fact you can create your own 427 by putting a short-stroke crank in a 454 block.

One of the beauties of Chevrolet motors is that they have the same motor mount placement and the same bell housing bolt pattern. As a result a big block will bolt right into our cars. Exhaust is a bit of a challenge, as is getting it to fit under the hood; and they have trouble with A/C evaporator housings, power brake boosters, steering columns, and wiper motors. There are several people on this board who have them in their cars, and are willing to soread the knowledge around.

I once dropped a chevy 454/TH400 into a 1981 olds Cutlass Supreme with very little trouble. The biggest probs were I had to use an electric fan and I had to fabricate a tranny mount, other than that is was pretty straight forward. It actually had holes in the frame for the correct engine mounts!
front springs were a bit weak though.....

sorry about getting off the subject just thought it might be an interesting tidbit......

All the info you need is on my page. Let me know if you have any questions.

Stephen - Sleeping today? Or are you already working on that new 454?

I don't get into this forum as much

I'm currently in the process of dropping a 454 big block into my race car this winter. It's a pretty straight forward swap. Things get a little tricky in a street car. Clearances are tighter. It's not impossible to do, just a little difficult. Miles (88 427 camaro) has an excellent page on how to do the swap.

It's also possible to drop in any of the 455 engines but you'll have to fabricate everything yourself. Nobody makes any sort of conversion parts to do those swaps. One thing you would need to do is change the tranny to one with a BOP bellhousing since all three of those engines are different than the chev pattern. Stock exhaust manifolds "may" fit but custon headers would have to be made. You can drop any engine into any vehicle with a little engineering and planning. Some just fit better than others.

If you can get one to fit, an Olds 455 would be a real torque monster. Probably destroy the little diff under the camaro in stock trim. You could also go really exotic and drop in a 500 Cadillac engine. It could fit but much more planning would be needed.
