Cam Degreeing

Recently I rebuilt my L98,and installed an LT1 cam,but I didn't degree it to figure out the the event timing.I also installed a Cloyes double true roller chain with the Hex adjust, and set it at zero.Anyone set theirs differently?

I always degree the cam. You'ld be amazed at how far off the cam will be by just using the timing marks. I've seen them up to 2* off. That's why I always degree them in anymore.

I just installed a hex-adjust like yours. It didn't have a mark on the cam gear. I got it as close as I could with #1 at tdc and using the dial on the intake lobe. I got it dialed in, but the hex mark is in the 2nd mark and not straight up. I'll adv/ret the cam as the dyno pulls dictate. By playing with the hex bushing and watching the wheel, one dot moved the cam roughly 2*.

I had my L98 rebuilt too and thought about having my mechanic installing the cam a degree or two advanced. Advancing it effectively changes the specs ground in the cam. In the end I decided to have him install it straight up and am happy with it.
