Help! Can't get L-88 drop base aircleaner to fit

I just got an L-88 aircleaner base and can’t get it to fit my qjet. First it hits the TPS weatherpack harness coming out of the carb. I can probably rewire it to that’s not really as big a problem as the next. With the TPS unplugged and the harness not in the way, I can get the base to sit fairly close to the carb, but doing so jams up the throttle linkages. It appear the cruise control stud sticks out too far and refuses to allow the throttle to rotate at all. Anyone else have this problem and how do I got about fixing it.
Thanx

You need a non-drop base air cleaner simple as that. Summit sells one for $17 I think, and it comes with a filter. I had the same problem. Its just what you have to do.

You might also check your local parts store for an air cleaner spacer, I think they make them as low as 1/2". Measure how much clearance you need and see what your options are. Might be a cheaper alternative to buying a new air cleaner.

Don't try modifying everything around the air cleaner to make it fit, it's not worth it.

If the aircleaner base is indeed for an L-88, then it was designed to fit a Holley carb. 1967 through 1969 427 Corvette (the L-88s in Camaros and Chevelles had enough hood clearance to not need a drop base).

Before Quadrajets got electronic controls, it probably would have fit. Probably. The electronic connections are the problem, and of course, the cruise bracket.

If the base is an original L-88 piece, it is worth big bucks.

Edelbrock make black plastic airhorn/aircleaner spacers. I use one on my edelbrock carb with the L-88 air cleaner for clearance.
Its about 3/8" thick. Check the Edelbrock catalog.
This may solve your carb top clearance issues.

The reason I'm using a drop base is because I need it to clear a Perfromer RPM under the stock hood and read the L-88 base gave the best drop, but it appears it's dropped a bit too much. lol I'll try the spacer, but I can only find a 1/2" spacer by Edelbrock. I guess its close enough to 3/8" so i'll try it. Only $8 from Summit.

Thanx for the help guys:rockon:
