Solid Mechanical Roller Cam ?'s
Is is wise to run Solid Mechanical Roller Cam's on the street. I will be running a Comp XR-274-12R on my new motor, with Pro Topline Iron Lightining heads. I have heard that mechanical roller lifters do not last long, especially on the street were there is significant idle time. And because they burn up do to lack of oil. Has anybody ever run one on the street, and what are some of your opinions about this?

most if not all mechanical rollers would fall into the "full race cam" catagory. there wouldb't be any reason you could run one if you wanted, but there ought to be a lot better choices than a mechanical roller.

Until about 83 or so, mechanical rollers were the only kind there was. We all used to run them on the street and they seemed to do OK.
Any mech roller cam is going to be one hell of alot different from that 929 POS you've got. That's the second most pitiful excuse for a cam there is, next to the LG4/L03/LB9 "peanut" cam. It has lobes about like the girl who wants to know if they make AAA bras, and the clerk tells her all she needs is Clearasil.
Those ones in the link IIRC are rebuildable, so even if they wear, they can be renewed for much less than the cost of replacement.
You can also get a lifter bore grooving tool to deliver oil to the roller full time.

Mechanical roller cams are no problem on the street just don't use race type oil restrictors that drop the amount of oil to them and pick a cam that has normal ramps. ( no inrad or reverse flank stuff )
The cam you picked is one cam smaller than the one that's on order for my street car. Also keep the spring pressure down to about 150 to 160 on the seat and 400 or so over the nose.
The last thing is lash the valves at about four to five thousand mile intervals and if you have a big lash change than find out what has changed.
