When I step on it, the car jolts or "burps" and then it catches itself and chirps the tires....in higher gears, at higher speeds....upon acceleration it does the same thing but not sucha hard jolt.

I've also noticed that my tach will bounce steadily over a 500rpm or so stretch.

I've replaced the fuel pump, and fuel filter, I dont know what else to check, i will be checking my plug wires in a bit.

Any suggestions?

 

Sounds like it might be a vacuum leak.
Which car in your sig is this on?

 

its the 91 RS

The car also does it during idle, the RPM needle fluctuates, although not as severely

 

bouncing tach is a pretty good sign of a vaccum leak
